Text Box: It all started for me at a very early age. I vaguely remember singing or should I say screaming to the old Motown records on an old turntable. There was no mic, just me in my room stressing and straining to stay above the cranked up volume. I loved to sing and loved the music, all of it. Little Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, all of them taught me how to sing. As great as it was I had no clue what was about to hit me!
One day at school one of my buddies handed me this portable radio. “You gotta listen to these guys!!! He said. I was blown away! Chills run up and down my spine! I was hooked! It was of course The Beatles, “I Saw Her Standing There,” rocking through that 3” speaker. I knew then and there what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I had found my calling, my passion! There was no turning back. I remember one day sitting on my front steps and having this vision so to speak. It was a strong feeling along with a vivid mental picture of me singing in front of a large crowd. I knew I’d “make it” some day, be famous, be a star! It stuck with me all my life and still keeps me going, motivated. I was carried away like a whirlwind. I lived and breathed music, living precariously through The Beatles and the whole “British Invasion.” I learned every song, word for word. I’d spend 10-12-14 hours a day down my basement singing away.
My best friend, George learned the drums, I sang, of course, and we formed a band “The Strangers.” It was a great time but jobs, girlfriends and babies came and so, the end of the band. I was devastated! I was very shy, sensitive and insecure then and those guys were my security. I was going it alone now as a singer and couldn’t muster up the nerve to audition and join another band. Drugs and pot were a big part of the music scene and I wanted no part or it. I was secure around those guys and it was easier to say no to all the influences around us. A new band meant new challenges and threats and I didn’t feel I fit in.
It was years before I ventured out again and joined a band. I floated in and out of bands but nothing stuck more than a year maybe two. I dabbled in songwriting but couldn’t quite get the hang of it. My music taste, style and range never quite fit the bands I was in. During that time music was much more categorized into genres; rock, pop, metal, etc. If you were into one genre you didn’t do the other. In fact one genre snubbed their nose at the other. Being very sensitive to the whole situation I held back. Being a guitar God, power drummer, or great keyboard player was the “thing” then. Not to say that singers weren’t important but it added to my insecurity. I played a little rhythm guitar, and tried learning to play lead but struggled. I couldn’t stay focused, learn to read and play scales. I’d try but get frustrated, put the guitar down and pick up the mic. I sort of isolated myself and sang alone down my basement. It was then that I learned to be a performer, a front man. I developed my singing style. I sang and listened to such a variety of music that I developed a very versatile style and voice. Rock is and always will be my thing but I’m a fan of so many different singers of so many styles that I grew to be comfortable singing most anything. Ironically through my musical seclusion, I grew out of my fears. I sort of forgot what it was I was afraid of. I guess I grew up musically and came into my own as an artist. Looking back, I had a fear of failure, success and fear itself. Make sense?
Through all of this I had my vanilla life. I was married and divorced twice. I had my share of dates and girl friends but like the bands they never stuck. It’s all good. I guess I’m a bachelor at heart. I love baseball and played most of life in between the music. I am also a hairstylist. I am blessed with two passions in my life; music and hairstyling. Music is my first passion but hairstyling has been a great alternative. I became interested in hairstyling through my connection to music. I always had a fascination for the fashion and hairstyles associated with the “rock and roll” scene. Hairstylist in general are very creative, stylish and trendy. Once I got involved in hairstyling I found it exciting and rewarding. The people, the shows, the glamour, art and fashion all complemented my singing and song- writing career.
Songwriting remained a challenge to me for many years. I wrote a song here or there but it was just a side thing that I sort of faked my way through. Then one Christmas Santa, in the form of my second wife changed all of that. She bought me a four track recorder. Much to her dismay, she created a monster! Now I could over dub! Now there was a drum track, base, harmony, rhythm and lead guitar WOW!!!!

I recently move to Destin, Florida after spending two years in Nashville, Tennessee. I moved to Nashville to pursue a songwriting career. Although I made some good solid connections I wasn't happy living there. Being a rock musician in a country town I never found my place. My original plan was to move to Los Angeles, Ca. where I had made some strong music connections. I felt it was the best area for me to pursue a music career. The problem was making the trip all the way from Connecticut, where I was living at the time, to California. The van I owned to make the trip was very old and I didn't feel it could make such a long trip in one Text Box: Tell me yours and I’ll post them...
