 You Be The Judge!

While living in Nashville I spent a lot of time at a local bar "Broadway Café." It was a great place to relax and have a few beers after a long recording session. Everyone was very friendly, a home away from home. They had different types of entertainment each night; blues night, open mic, karaoke, comedy, you name it! One night I got talking to a girl who was rather attractive. We sort of flirted back and forth but she was with a guy who appeared to be her boyfriend. When he got up to go to the "john," she walked over to me and quickly gave her my phone number. I called her a few times but because the guy she was with was actually her boyfriend I never went out with her. A few days later though, the incident gave me the idea for a song I call "In The First Place." The song tells a story so I won’t go into it. I really liked the song so I decided to bring it to a studio for a final mix rather than doing a rough mix on my own. I usually do this when I think a song really has potential. At the studio we decided to re-do the whole song over. Our equipment clashed and the producer felt he could do a better job with fresh new tracks. I agreed. He re-did the rythmn tracks on his own and I came in and did the vocals. I was very happy with the results but I still liked the feel of my original version.

I have a musician friend, Mark Griffin, who also has a lot of tech experience, listen to both versions. He liked the original version also although he felt the new vocals were of better quality. I decided to go back and do a better mix of the original version. Now there are two! So I am asking you to pick the one you like. Perhaps the winner will go on my next CD. I have a lot of older material that I plan on re-recording so I may ask you to help me choose from time to time. Your feedback will be very helpful and your interaction will be fun.

This is a collection of songs I started working on in Nashville but never finished because the walls came tumbling down. It's hard to record while living in your van! If I ever finish them and put them out as a CD . I think I'll call it "Flunking Out Of Nashville." There will be much more on my two year stay at "Music City," Music Row...
